LIVINGSTON, La. — An Albany man has been sentenced to 75 years in prison following his conviction for sexually abusing a child under the age of 13.
District Attorney Scott Perrilloux of the 21st Judicial District said Judge Erika Sledge handed down the sentence on Monday, Sept. 22, to Joshua Prine, 43. A jury found Prine guilty last month of sexual battery of a juvenile.
The case began in 2023 when the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office opened an investigation into allegations of abuse at an unlicensed in-home daycare. Perrilloux commended the now 10-year-old victim, who testified during the trial about the abuse.
Over the course of the two-day bench trial, Prine’s ex-wife testified that he was never left alone with children in her care. Prosecutors countered with messages between Prine and his ex-wife in which she urged him to “confess, take a plea, and stop lying to himself.”
“Combined with the evidence from medical experts, family members, and the victim, these messages successfully raised doubts about the woman’s in-court testimony,” Perrilloux said.
He also praised investigators and Assistant District Attorney Brett Sommer, who prosecuted the case. “This case represents a tremendous effort by investigators to stop any further abuse,” Perrilloux said. “Our office applauds the work of the LPSO detectives who worked tirelessly to complete a prompt and thorough investigation into these allegations. I also applaud the work of Brett Sommer to get justice for our victim, who courageously took the stand and testified to the abuse this child endured.”
