LIVINGSTON PARISH — The Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office has arrested a Hammond man in connection with the fatal shooting of 22-year-old Tyree Lionel Worthy of Baton Rouge, who was found wounded in a Denham Springs neighborhood early Sunday morning.
Deputies were called to Longwood Drive around 3 a.m. on Dec. 21 in reference to a shooting. When they arrived, they found Worthy lying in the street with gunshot wounds. He was taken to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries, according to an initial LPSO release. Investigators learned that a gathering or party had been taking place at one of the nearby homes, and early information indicated the shooting was not random but appeared to be an isolated incident.

Detectives also began searching for a 2019 Chevrolet Impala with Louisiana license plate 658CUG, which the suspect had fled in. The vehicle did not belong to him.
On Monday, Sheriff Jason Ard announced that investigators had taken 26-year-old Kylin Jamar Sexton of Hammond into custody on charges of second-degree murder, felon in possession of a firearm and theft of a motor vehicle. Sexton is being held in the Livingston Parish Detention Center.
According to Ard, Sexton was given a ride from the Albany area to the Denham Springs party in the early morning hours before the shooting. While other passengers went inside, Sexton stayed outside. At some point, investigators said, Sexton and Worthy interacted, and Sexton shot him. Sexton then fled the scene in the same vehicle he arrived in without the owner’s permission.
Ard said Sexton is currently on both state and federal probation for weapons and drug charges. Detectives located the vehicle Sunday afternoon in Tangipahoa Parish, and Sexton was found later that night with the assistance of the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office, Hammond Police Department and East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office. He was initially booked into the Tangipahoa Parish Jail as a fugitive before being transported to Livingston Parish.
LPSO says its investigation is ongoing.
