DENHAM SPRINGS, La. — Baton Rouge General held a groundbreaking ceremony Thursday for its new neighborhood hospital in the Juban Crossing area, marking the start of construction on a long-planned project aimed at expanding healthcare access in Livingston Parish.

The roughly 40,000-square-foot facility will be located just off Juban Road near Interstate 12 and is expected to open in fall 2027. Plans include a 24-hour emergency department with 14 beds, a 13-bed inpatient unit, imaging and laboratory services, physical therapy, and space for outpatient clinics and physician practices.

Local officials joined BRG leadership at the event, noting that Denham Springs has long been without a full-service hospital despite the area’s rapid growth.

Baton Rouge General first announced the project in 2024, describing it as a significant investment intended to give residents access to emergency and routine medical care closer to home. At the time, the health system said the hospital would be equipped to treat a wide range of urgent conditions, from cardiac events and strokes to fractures and severe allergic reactions.

Construction is now underway, with hospital leaders calling the groundbreaking a major milestone for the region.
