HAMMOND – The Southeastern Louisiana University football team closed out the second week of fall camp Saturday morning in Strawberry Stadium.
With an officiating crew on hand, Saturday’s practice saw the Lions simulate game situations for the majority of the workout. The SLU defense had the clear upper hand Saturday.
“The defense had a good day,” Southeastern head coach Frank Scelfo said. “The big thing was we were able to force turnovers. On the other hand, we don’t like seeing our offense make those mistakes and commit turnovers.
“We had some great teachable moments during our situational work,” Scelfo added. “We were able to replicate game situations and gain some valuable experience.”
Overall, Scelfo has been encouraged by what he’s seen from his team through the first 10 practices.
“We play with a lot of energy, we’re athletic and we have good talent level,” Scelfo commented. “We need more consistency in certain areas on both sides of the ball, but we feel good about where we are heading into the season. As long as the effort continues to be good and we’re solid on our assignments, we’ll be fine.”
Southeastern, which returns to the practice field Monday at 9 a.m., will open the 2026 season at home, hosting HCU at 6 p.m. Aug. 27 in Strawberry Stadium.
