LIVINGSTON PARISH — A new community initiative aims to bring professional-grade theater technology to the Livingston Parish Public Schools multi-purpose building in Albany, expanding performance opportunities for students across the district.
The project, titled “Curtain Up, Livingston,” is the community improvement effort of the current Leadership Livingston class, a program of the Livingston Parish Chamber of Commerce. Participants in the program are divided into groups and tasked with developing projects that address a community need.
Organizers are partnering with LPPS and local donors to outfit the parish-wide facility with upgraded sound, lighting, and stage equipment designed to support student productions and other school-related events.
The project includes installation of:
• Powered speakers, mixers and wired and wireless microphones
• Professional LED lighting fixtures and control systems
• Safety-certified truss and cabling systems
• Front traveler curtains and stage legs made from industrial-grade materials
• Modular risers and designated storage solutions
Once completed, the venue will primarily support the district’s Talented Arts Program while also serving as a space for professional development sessions, meetings and conferences.
Organizers say the goal is to create a performance-ready environment that meets modern production standards and enhances the student experience.
The Arts Council of Livingston Parish has committed to match community donations dollar-for-dollar up to the first $10,000 raised for the project.
This matching opportunity effectively doubles the community’s investment in the local arts.
"Curtain Up, Livingston!" reflects the mission of the Livingston Parish Chamber Foundation and Leadership Livingston to identify and address critical community needs through sustainable projects.
Contact the Livingston Chamber of Commerce if you would like to learn more about this project and how to help.
