DENHAM SPRINGS, La. - The Denham Springs City Council conducted a brief 17-minute meeting Monday with minimal attendance, addressing routine business items including a significant flood mitigation initiative.
With Council members Jeff Wesley and Amber Dugas absent, the three remaining members barely achieved the quorum necessary to conduct official business. Despite the shortened session, the council addressed several key agenda items.
The meeting's primary action item was authorizing Mayor Gerald Landry to enter into an agreement with Quality Engineers for a flood mitigation assistance grant application. The initiative will focus on elevating or acquiring flood-prone structures throughout the city.
Under the proposed agreement, the city would pay $8,000 per property acquisition project and $2,500 per parcel for elevation or reconstruction projects. The payment structure is divided into four phases: 10% upon receiving notice to proceed, 40% following each structure acquisition, 40% after demolition completion, and the final 10% upon individual property closeout.
The council also approved alcohol permits for three local restaurants and authorized Mayor Landry to execute a maintenance agreement with the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development. The DOTD agreement covers mowing and litter pickup services along designated roadways.
