BATON ROUGE — A Denham Springs couple has been arrested following an investigation into more than $133,000 in alleged government benefits fraud, according to a news release from the Louisiana Attorney General’s Office.

Keith and Sheryl Duncan, both residents of Columbia Avenue in Denham Springs, are accused of intentionally underreporting their household income and marital status to qualify for Medicaid benefits over three years.

The Louisiana Bureau of Investigation (LBI), which operates under Attorney General Liz Murrill’s office, opened the case following a referral from the Louisiana Department of Health. Investigators allege the couple submitted false information between November 2021 and October 2024 to maintain eligibility for the program.

As a result, the state claims the couple improperly received more than $133,000 in Medicaid funds.

Arrest warrants were issued by the 19th Judicial District Court, and the Duncans were taken into custody Wednesday, July 30, without incident. Both were booked into East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.

Sheryl Duncan faces one count of government benefits fraud. Her bond was set at $5,000. Keith Duncan faces three counts of the same charge, with bond set at $12,000.

The investigation is ongoing. Additional details, including copies of the arrest warrants, were made available through the Attorney General’s Office.
