DENHAM SPRINGS, La. — The Denham Springs community is mourning the loss of Adelie “Addie” Latta, a senior at Denham Springs High School who died after spending 27 days in the hospital following a car accident earlier this month.

Latta, a member of the school’s powerlifting team, had remained in intensive care since the crash. Her death has prompted an outpouring of support from classmates, teachers, families and local residents who had followed updates on her condition.

In a tribute shared by the powerlifting team, her teammates remembered her as someone whose personality filled any room she entered. They described her as a leader, a friend and a source of comfort for others, often offering a joke or an encouraging smile at meets. The team wrote that she represented everything they strive to teach: strength, compassion and commitment to others.

Her family shared that Latta was an organ donor and had expressed her wish to help others if she ever had the chance. Loved ones described her decision as brave and generous, reflecting the kind of person she was.

School officials said grief counselors will be available for students and staff as they cope with the loss. The school is expected to share information about memorial plans once the family has had time to make arrangements.

Latta was expected to graduate in the spring, and she is being remembered as a hardworking and joyful student whose impact reached far beyond her athletic achievements.
