DENHAM SPRINGS, La. — Mayor Gerard Landry announced Monday that he will not seek a fourth term, bringing his 12 years in office to a close when his current term ends.

Landry was elected in November 2014 and took office in 2015. About 18 months into his first term, the August 2016 flood inundated roughly 75 percent of Denham Springs. Landry won reelection in 2018 and secured a third term without opposition in 2022.

“Serving the people of the City of Denham Springs for three terms has been the greatest honor and blessing of my life,” Landry said. “Together, we have built a resilient, thriving community, weathered extraordinary storms, and accomplished a tremendous amount.

“After much prayer and reflection, I have decided that this current term will be my last. It is simply time to pass the torch and turn my full attention to life’s greatest personal blessings: my wonderful wife, our children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. They have stood faithfully by my side throughout my public service, and I am eager to share this next chapter fully with them.

“As I transition to life as a private citizen, my prayer for Denham Springs is that our next mayor will continue to fiercely protect the interests of all citizens. May we always hold this great city to a higher standard as we continue to grow and look forward to a bright future.”

Candidates seeking to succeed Landry may qualify Wednesday, Aug. 5, through Friday, Aug. 7, with the Livingston Parish Clerk of Court.  Denham Springs City Councilman Jim Gilbert and Cavalier House Books co-owner John Cavalier previously announced campaigns for mayor. The official field will be set after qualifying closes. Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 3.

Landry said he will remain focused on managing city operations and completing ongoing municipal projects through the remainder of his term.
