Driver pleads guilty in 2021 Springfield crash that killed 34-year-old nurse

LIVINGSTON, La. -Nearly four years after a fatal drunk driving crash, Kelli Lemoine has pleaded guilty to vehicular homicide and driving under the influence in the death of Brittany Costello, a 34-year-old nurse.

The crash occurred on July 18, 2021, on the Killian Bridge in Springfield. Authorities said Lemoine crossed the center line and collided head-on with Costello’s vehicle. She was later arrested and also charged with reckless operation and driving under suspension.

During court proceedings, family members described the emotional toll of facing the case over nearly four years. Costello’s mother said she remains "devastated,

Lemoine is scheduled to be sentenced in August.
