DENHAM SPRINGS — A question-and-answer session for utility service inquiries was hosted by Public Service Commissioner Jean-Paul Coussan and his team of specialists on July 15, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Denham Springs City Hall.
Coussan oversees District 2, which covers areas across 13 parishes, including parts of Ascension, Assumption, East Baton Rouge, East Feliciana, Iberville, Lafayette, Lafourche, Livingston, Pointe Coupee, St. Martin, Terrebonne, West Baton Rouge, and West Feliciana.
Consumer Affairs Specialist Peggy Lantrip was in attendance for the Q&A, during which community members were welcomed to discuss any questions they had about utility services that fall under the jurisdiction of the Louisiana Public Service Commission.
While the Q&A was properly advertised through official notices, there was not a large turnout of individuals seeking counsel on utility service matters. As Lantrip explained, a majority of inquiries usually arrive at the commission’s office by phone or email.
During the past fiscal year, from July 1, 2025, to June 30, 2026, Lantrip stated that the office received exactly 1,149 service inquiries by phone, email, or in person. Comparatively, during the fiscal year when Hurricane Ida passed through Louisiana, that number rose to a sizable 2,137.
Interestingly, East Baton Rouge Parish regularly accounts for almost half of all inquiries received by the Louisiana Public Service Commission in District 2.
Meetings such as this one are regularly held, sometimes multiple times in a single month, throughout parishes where a need is recognized, and there is potential for community engagement with the Q&A services. Oftentimes, according to Lantrip, community members attend these meetings to ask about higher energy bills, rate base changes involving energy providers, or service issues with those providers.
