Julie Emerson announced she is ending her campaign for the U.S. Senate, citing changes in the race and a diminished path to victory.
In a statement, Emerson said she entered the contest after extensive consideration and conversations with voters, concluding that many were seeking new leadership. She said her decision to run was motivated by a desire to serve Louisiana and help move the state forward.
Emerson said the dynamics of the race shifted following the entry of Julia Letlow, noting that the path she previously saw to victory has narrowed. She also expressed support for Donald Trump and his endorsement of Letlow in the effort to defeat incumbent Bill Cassidy.
With that, Emerson said she has chosen to end her campaign and thanked supporters she met while traveling across Louisiana during the race.
