Livingston Parish 4-H members compete at 112th annual 4-H University

Seventeen Livingston Parish 4-H members joined students from across the state for the 112th annual 4-H University, held June 23-25 at LSU.

The event, formerly known as Short Course, carried the theme “Krewe De 4-H U” and gave students the opportunity to compete in statewide contests, attend educational sessions and take part in Clover College programs.

Livingston Parish participants included Jacob H., Ruston G., Haleigh N., Logan V., Olivia V., McKenzie S., Chanler F., Jezebelle H., Levi L., Victoria T., Addison S., James B., Addelyn W., Addilyn A., Braxton B., Ayva S. and Blair P.

Several local 4-H members placed in their competitions. Olivia V. earned second place in Fashion Revue — “It’s Sew You.” Logan V. placed sixth in both STEM Illustrated Talk and Career Preparation. Ruston G. placed sixth in Horticulture Identification and Evaluation, Haleigh N. placed eighth in Fashion Revue — Ready to Wear, and Levi L. placed fifth in Tractor Operations.

Ruston G., Olivia V., Jezebelle H. and Addilyn A. also participated in the Visual Arts Contest.

In addition to competitions and educational sessions, 4-H members attended nightly assemblies at the Carl Maddox Fieldhouse. Tuesday’s assembly featured Eddie Slowikowski, a former Olympic gold medalist, professional speaker and empowerment strategist. On Wednesday, students participated in “Leadership Showdown,” a game show-style event with prizes. The program concluded Thursday with an awards night attended by family members.

Six Livingston Parish 4-H members were also selected to serve as state 4-H board members and ambassadors during the 2026-27 school year. Ruston G., Logan V. and Olivia V. will serve on the STEM Board. Jezebelle H. was selected as a Wetlands Ambassador, Jacob H. as a Livestock Ambassador and Aly D. as a Shooting Sports Ambassador.

Livingston Parish 4-H thanked Catherine Ducote, Cheryl Page and Micah Denesse for serving as volunteers during the week.
