Livingston Parish agencies conduct full-scale emergency response exercise

LIVINGSTON PARISH — More than 65 emergency responders and officials representing 16 organizations participated in a full-scale emergency response exercise this week at the Livingston Parish Emergency Operations Center (EOC).

The event was designed to simulate industrial emergencies, such as chemical spills or gas leaks, and test coordination between agencies. Participating groups included the Livingston Parish Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness (OHSEP), local fire protection districts, the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office, Acadian Ambulance, Louisiana State Police, Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality, and representatives from ExxonMobil and other industry partners.

Parish officials say the EOC has been significantly upgraded in recent months through donations and community partnerships, rather than taxpayer funds. Visiting professionals reportedly praised the facility as a strong regional hub for training and coordination.

State Representatives Kellee Hennessy and Jeffery Wiley were also in attendance, along with LOHSEP Director Chris Anderson and Deputy Director Shannon Dyer.

The drill focused on improving tactics, communication, and interagency cooperation in advance of any real emergency, emphasizing a proactive approach to public safety.
