Livingston Parish Council handles routine agenda, hears from community

The Livingston Parish Council moved swiftly through a largely routine agenda Thursday night, approving most zoning recommendations and green-lighting several infrastructure-related contracts.

The council upheld nearly all recommendations from the Parish Zoning Committee, with one exception—a rezoning application for Donna Avenue in Councilman John Mangus’s district, which was denied.

Council members also approved the purchase of materials for road and bridge projects and authorized a contract with ELOS Environmental to administer the parish’s Louisiana Community Development Block Grant. In addition, Parish President Randy Delatte was granted authority to enter contracts for the Disaster Recovery and Mitigation Resiliency Programs and for Part B of the Highway 63 Drainage Improvements Project.

The council heard a presentation from Rebecca Brawn, administrator of The Family Village, a nonprofit supporting women and children in need. Brawn shared that the organization, based at Walker’s First Baptist Church, was founded by a foster mother and an adoptive mother who recognized the urgent need for essentials such as formula, diapers, and clothing.

Also recognized during the meeting were members of the Denham Springs High School bass fishing team, which recently won the state tournament held at D’Arbonne Lake in Union Parish.

To open the meeting, Parish Assessor Jeff Taylor shared preliminary plans for an outdoor pavilion at the parish government complex. The space would serve as a gathering spot for parish employees and be constructed alongside an expansion of his offices. Taylor noted that no cost estimates are available yet, as the project has not gone out for bids.
