Hemberger is Associate Professor of Music, Director of Bands, and conductor of the Wind Symphony at Southeastern Louisiana University. As a clinician, conductor, and lecturer, he has appeared throughout the United States, Europe, Scandinavia, Asia and Australia. Prior to his 1999 appointment at Southeastern, he served as Associate Director of Bands at Oklahoma State, on the faculty at the University of Rhode Island, and as Director of Bands at Thornton High School in Colorado. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Music Education and master’s in Instrumental Conducting from the University of Colorado and a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Wind Conducting and Repertoire from the University of North Texas.
Among ensembles he has conducted around the globe: National Taiwan University Wind Orchestra, Melbourne Youth Symphonic Wind Band, New Orleans Civic Symphony Orchestra, the U.S. Coast Guard Band and (the first American ever) the Chinese Military Armed Police Band at Tiananmen Square. He has been awarded the 2004 Hammond Regional Arts Award, the 2005 Faculty Award for Excellence in Artistic Activity from the College of Arts and Sciences, and the 2007 Southeastern President’s Award for Excellence in Artistic Activity. He is a member of the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra Northshore Advisory Board.

Guest conductor Bardie Roberts directs a rehearsal of the Livingston Parish Middle School Honor Band prior to their concert Jan. 8 at Denham Springs Junior High School. A native of Hazlehurst, Miss., Roberts holds both bachelorÕs and masterÕs degree in Music Education from LSU. Roberts has taught at Zachary, Jennings and Broadmoor high schools, where his bands consistently earned superior ratings in concert, sight reading, and field performance at district and state competitions. His Jennings High School Symphonic Band represented Louisiana at the ARK-LA-TEX Conference in 1978. RobertsÕ awards include the Louisiana Bandmasters Association Bandmaster of the Year, the Phi Beta Mu Bandmaster of the Year, the MAC award, the Louisiana Music Educators Association Contributor of the Year, and the Louisiana Music Association District V Band Director of the Year. He directed the Louisiana All Star Marching Band in 1978 and has adjudicated and been invited as a guest conductor/clinician in Louisiana, Mississippi, Arkansas, Texas, and Alabama. Roberts and his wife Diane live in Baton Rouge. Their daughter Natalie Engels and grandson Hadley live in San Jose, Calif., and son Andrew Roberts lives in Cambridge, Mass. Roberts is presently employed at Zeagler Music.
