Storytimes

Every week, Livingston Parish Library branches offer storytimes for babies through age 5. Storytimes help develop pre-reading skills while children and their caregivers have lots of fun! We read books, present puppet shows, sing songs, play games, and make cool crafts.

Kickstart your creativity for the month ahead by joining us on the first Saturday of every month for a fun, hands-on craft that you can make and take home – all in one visit! Whether you’re a kid or an adult, we’ve got something for everyone, so you can craft with flair! Each month features a brand-new project, and we’ve got all the supplies you need, so you can just drop in anytime between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., craft, and go. Learning how to make jewelry is a lot of fun, especially when you learn that you can use almost anything to do it! Even metal hex nuts and metal washers! Come join us and see how you can use these simple items to add a little edginess to your style. Registration is required.

Thursday, November 6 at 4:00 p.m. – Mixed Media Tree Painting with Cotton Balls (Ages 5-7)

Leaves are falling everywhere and swirling to the ground. Let's create these leaves by painting with cotton balls for this fall-themed event. Registration is required.

Calling all LEGO lovers! Each month we will host LEGO Club with a different theme. LEGO will be provided.

Get ready to groove and giggle at the library! Enjoy a variety of songs and rhythms that will have your child dancing, clapping, and singing along. Parents and caregivers are encouraged to join in the fun and share in the joy of music with their little ones.

Celebrate the season by creating a festive fall plate, crafted with simple materials and accented with autumn florals. Registration is required.

Christmas is a holiday where decorating can be big and over-the-top. And we love that idea! So we planned an event where you can make your own larger-than-life, jumbo ornament to add to your Christmas décor! All supplies will be provided. Registration is required.

The ASB Book Club meets on the last Monday of the month from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m., except for holidays. Titles are selected from member suggestions as well as librarian cultivation. Members are encouraged to read titles in the club that they might not normally pick up on their own, expanding their literary horizons.

Saturday, November 8 at 9:00 a.m. – Safe & In Charge: Sitter Superstars (Ages 10-14)

Whether your child is interested in becoming a top-notch babysitter or simply wants to be more prepared for the challenges life may bring, this course offered at no charge by the Louisiana Firefighters Foundation teaches valuable lessons for everyone. Participants will learn basic childcare, life safety, business skills, and essential first aid techniques, including CPR and choking response. This is not just a class for aspiring #SitterSuperstars – it’s for any young person looking to be empowered with the knowledge and skills to navigate life safely and effectively. Are you looking for a friendly writer's atmosphere? People to share ideas with? Feedback for your latest writing project? Our creative writing group is for you. We focus on support, helping each other, and having fun! All genres and all levels, from novice to pro writers, are welcome. During each club meeting, we will participate in troubleshooting discussions, enjoy some writing time, and end the session with friendly feedback for those who want it. This homage to an old-fashioned sewing circle will meet monthly for two hours of discussion, demonstration, and camaraderie.

Start a “threadition” for your family by learning to sew and embroider by hand. Learn some of the stitches and techniques that your grandmothers used to make and decorate useful items like clothes, quilts, and pillowcases. This year-long series will teach the basics of hand applique, hand piecing and hand quilting, as well as hand embroidery through the medium of creating a slow stitch journal - one fabric page for every month of the year. Start a “threadition” and join us the third Saturday each month. Beginners are welcome! Registration is required.
