LIVINGSTON, La. — Walker High School graduate and Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr. was honored by the Livingston Parish School Board at its April 7 regular meeting, which also brought a long-awaited resolution to the Holden House to Be Moved.
The board's first agenda item was the recognition of Thomas Jr., a Walker High School graduate and Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver.
Board member Katelyn Cockerham highlighted several of Thomas Jr.'s achievements, including three seasons at LSU, a first-round selection in the NFL Draft, a Pro Bowl appearance in his first NFL season, and being "an exemplary person altogether."
"It's such an honor to have Brian here tonight," board member Ronald McMorris added. "Role models are what we're about, what we have to be, and Brian does exceptionally well at that."
Thomas Jr. received a commemorative plaque and gift bag from the board as a token of its appreciation.
Livingston Parish Council member John Mangus attended the meeting to show his support, ahead of additional recognition Thomas Jr. received about an hour later at the Livingston Parish Council meeting.
Longtime readers will recognize the house to be moved in Holden as something of a thorn in the school board's side for quite some time. The house, which originally went to market in September 2025 for $115,400, faced being returned to Holden's possession if no bids were received during the final advertising period, with a minimum bid of $20,000.
"This might be interesting," accountant Bridget Demonica said as she approached the board. "I sold the house!"
According to Demonica, one bid of $20,257 was received from Jeff Clark on April 7.
The board wasted no time, unanimously approving the bid and declaring the house sold.
Following the house sale, accountant Demonica asked the board to reject all bids received for gas and diesel for the district's fuel stations. The request came after "an administrative error omitting the time change for the bid opening on the addendum that was posted."
The board unanimously voted to reject the bids and authorized Demonica to readvertise.
