On October 2, 2026 Livingston Parish Sheriff Jason Ard gave a special interview at Carter Plantation announcing his intent to run for sheriff during the next election.
“I just wanted to make an official announcement amongst my friends that I will be re-running for office in 2027,” Sheriff Ard stated to the room of supporters.
“I have a good group of men and women,” Sheriff Ard added. “We believe in what we do, we love our community, our kids go to school in this community, and we are embedded in this community.”
Sheriff Ard noted that his team will continue to be “working towards the future of this office [and] working toward accountability and transparency.”
When asked why Sheriff Ard decided to run again, he explained that, over the 33 years he’s been in office, he has found that the development of the community and the sheriff’s office inspired a desire to continue bolstering their transparency and growth as they move into the future.
“We are the fastest growing parish in the state of Louisiana,” Sheriff Ard told the news in an exclusive interview. “We have so many things we still want to accomplish here… so I just want to keep serving my community and keeping my community safe.”
Sheriff Ard said he will “be here as long as the people want me to be here” when asked whether this will be his last time running for sheriff.
Sheriff Ard said the legacy he wants to leave is one of hard work and complete dedication to serving the community.
“At the end of the day, I work hard, I’m dedicated. I’m loyal to my parish, and I’ve tried to do everything I can to listen to the citizens, be accountable, be accessible, do the things that are important… and I hope my legacy continues,” Sheriff Ard added.
Looking toward the future, Sheriff Ard said the office will seek to “expand upon our patrols and expand upon our sheriff’s office” while working on “our accountability and transparency.”
“Although we have a great [sheriff’s office], I just think every day we can be better… if we just work at it,” Sheriff Ard concluded.
