LIVINGSTON, LA — Livingston Parish Public Schools continued to demonstrate its standing as one of Louisiana’s highest-performing school systems, with students posting strong growth and achievement across multiple subject areas on the state’s 2026 LEAP assessments.
The Louisiana Department of Education (LDOE) released the results on July 6, showing notable gains in the number of Livingston Parish students scoring Mastery and Advanced in mathematics, science, English language arts, and social studies at the elementary, middle, and high school levels.
The latest results continue to rank the district among the state’s Top 10 performers. The district improved its overall Mastery and Advanced scores by 2 percentage points, improving to 44 percent, which is a full 8 points higher than the state average of 36 percent.
“We are very proud that our students remain among the highest performing in the state. Much credit goes to our parents, employees, and communities for their hard work and support of our students,” Superintendent Jody Purvis said.
“At the same time, our focus goes beyond top rankings. We know that every area we can improve is an integral step forward in producing well-rounded, well-educated students. These state assessments are just a tip-of-the-iceberg measurement of the success our students are having in our system,” Purvis said.
The LEAP assessments measure student readiness and achievement, evaluating mastery of state academic standards in English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies for students in Grades 3-8. At the high school level, the students’ knowledge and skills are measured through rigorous end-of-course assessments in English I and II, Algebra I, Geometry, Biology, Civics, and U.S. History.
At the subject levels, LPPS students posted their highest gains in ELA, with 52.3 percent of students in Grades 3-8 scoring Mastery and Advanced, and 55.8 percent of high school students scoring at the highest levels in English I and II.
South Live Oak Elementary led the parish with 74 percent of its students scoring at the Mastery and Advanced levels in ELA, followed closely by North Live Oak Elementary at 72 percent. Eastside Elementary recorded a strong 69 percent Mastery+ rate in ELA, while Live Oak High School and Juban Parc Elementary each achieved 62 percent in ELA.
Walker Junior High showed the most improvement in ELA scores with a 9.8-point gain in those students scoring Mastery and Advanced, up from 34.7 percent to 44.5 percent. Other schools that showed great improvements in ELA Mastery and Advanced scores were North Live Oak Elementary, up 5.8 points to 72 percent; Doyle High School improved 5.0 points to 58 percent; Denham Springs High School improved 4.6 points from 51 percent to 55.6 percent; and French Settlement Elementary and Albany Middle School each improved 4.2 points.
LPPS students also posted high gains in achieving Mastery and Advanced scores in math, with 42.8 percent of students in Grade 3-8 scoring Mastery and Advanced, and 43.9 percent of high schoolers scoring at the top levels in Algebra I and Geometry.
Denham Springs High School led the district’s growth in math scores, jumping 10.5 percentage points in the percent of Mastery and Advanced students, to go from 31.0 percent to 41.5 percent. Live Oak Elementary followed closely with a 10.0 gain, rising from 49.5 percent to 59.5 percent; Live Oak Junior High improved 9.2 points, up from 45.3 percent to 54.5 percent; French Settlement Elementary showed an 8.8-point gain, up from 39.0 percent to 47.8 percent; Albany Middle School improved 8.6 points, climbing from 45.4 percent to 54.0 percent; and Albany High School showed an 8.4 percent gain.
The percentages of students scoring Mastery or Advanced in other subject areas were 38.2 percent in science and 40.8 percent in Social Studies for students in Grades 3-8. And among high schoolers, 43.4 percent scored Mastery and Advanced in Civics and U.S. History, while 35.3 percent scored the highest levels in Biology.
Those schools posting the most improvement in science performance included Live Oak Elementary, which led the parish with a 13.4-point increase in Mastery and Advanced scores, improving from 31.0 percent to 44.4 percent. Live Oak High School recorded a 10.7-point gain, rising from 33.0 percent to 43.7 percent; North Live Oak Elementary increased 9.8 points from 42.9 percent to 52.7 percent; Southside Junior High posted a 6.2-point improvement, while Springfield Elementary followed closely with a 6.0-point gain.
Improved Mastery and Advanced scores in social studies were led by Live Oak Elementary, which recorded an 11.4-point increase, improving from 33.0 percent to 44.4 percent; followed by Live Oak Junior High with a 9.0-point gain, rising from 53.0 percent to 62.0 percent; French Settlement High School with an 8.0-point increase; and North Live Oak Elementary, Walker Junior High, Denham Springs High School, and Walker High School each recording a solid growth 7.0-point gain in the subject.
“This widespread improvement reflects continued momentum across our course disciplines at every grade level,” Purvis said.
