LIVINGSTON PARISH — Voters in portions of Livingston Parish will head to the polls Saturday, Nov. 15, to decide two property tax propositions aimed at supporting local fire protection districts.
The ballot will include measures for Fire Protection District No. 5 and Fire Protection District No. 8, both seeking funding renewals or authorizations to maintain and improve fire services in their respective areas.
District 5 voters will consider authorizing a new 5-mill property tax for a period of 20 years, beginning in 2026 and running through 2045.
If approved, the tax is expected to generate about $950,000 per year to fund the acquisition, construction, and maintenance of fire protection facilities, as well as the purchase of fire trucks, firefighting equipment, and water service for fire hydrants.
Residents within Fire Protection District 8 will vote on renewing a 15-mill property tax for another 10 years, beginning in 2028 and ending in 2037.
The renewal would continue generating roughly $299,000 annually to operate and maintain the district’s fire stations, purchase new fire trucks and equipment, and cover water and hydrant service costs for firefighting purposes.
Both propositions focus on maintaining essential fire protection services and ensuring districts can fund equipment upgrades and facility improvements without interruption.
Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday. Voters can find their polling location and sample ballot by visiting sos.la.gov or using the GeauxVote app.
