LIVINGSTON, La. — The town of Livingston is seeking five persons between 18 and 24 in need of temporary work under a Louisiana Workforce Commission grant, according to Mayor Jonathan ‘JT’ Taylor.

Taylor said the work would be for 40 hours per week, preferably for low-income applicants.

Taylor also told the town council at Thursday's meeting that volunteers were needed to help launch a youth football program for the town. “There has been a lot of discussion about renewing the program, but we need volunteers to step up, or there won’t be youth football,” he said.

Action on a rezoning application for five acres in the town on the agenda was postponed due to the inability of some of the principals to attend a public hearing on the matter. Instead, the public hearing was rescheduled for the council’s April 9 meeting. The property, at 13566 Florida Blvd. has an application for rezoning from R-2 to CR (split zone property).

The mayor gave a brief report on the progress of renovations to the old parish courthouse, and the council approved paying $97,000 for Phase 1 of the work.

The council also approved a routine renewal of the cooperative endeavor agreement with the South Central Planning & Development Commission.

Taylor said a city-wide cleanup day would be held on Saturday, April 25. The event will be held in conjunction with the Keep Louisiana Beautiful project.
