DENHAM SPRINGS — A Denham Springs man has been arrested following a joint investigation by the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office and the Louisiana Attorney General’s Office into child sexual abuse materials reported by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC).

Sheriff Jason Ard said Brandon Wayne Howlett, a resident of Denham Springs, was taken into custody after detectives with the LPSO Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force reviewed a CyberTip from NCMEC indicating potential possession and distribution of child sexual abuse material.

According to Ard, detectives determined that Howlett possessed and distributed one file containing child sexual abuse material involving a minor under the age of 17. Further investigation revealed seven videos produced by Howlett that were sexual in nature, which led investigators to identify a child victim.

Howlett was booked into the Livingston Parish Detention Center on the following charges:

  • One count of Child Sexual Abuse Material (LRS 14:81.1)

  • Seven counts of Indecent Behavior with a Juvenile (LRS 14:81)

  • Seven counts of Video Voyeurism (LRS 14:283)

The case was investigated by LPSO detectives in partnership with the Louisiana Bureau of Investigation and the Office of Attorney General Liz Murrill.

Ard commended the detectives involved and reminded parents that the ICAC Task Force offers Internet Safety presentations to help protect children from online exploitation. Presentations can be scheduled by calling 225-435-1365.

Residents can also find arrest and detention information through the LPSO mobile app by selecting the “Who’s in Jail?” feature.
