DENHAM SPRINGS — The Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office is investigating the fatal shooting of a man outside his apartment at the Parc at Denham Springs as a targeted, gang-related attack involving suspects from East Baton Rouge Parish.

Deputies were dispatched to the apartment complex off La. 16 around 5 a.m. Monday, July 20, after receiving reports of multiple gunshots.

When deputies arrived, they found a male victim who was pronounced dead at the scene. Relatives later identified the victim as Patrick Payne.

Livingston Parish Sheriff Jason Ard said Payne was leaving his apartment and getting into his vehicle to go to work when he was shot.

In an update released Tuesday, Ard said investigators had gathered enough evidence to determine the shooting was targeted and gang-related. Investigators believe multiple people from the East Baton Rouge Parish area traveled to Livingston Parish to carry out the attack.

Investigators are also searching for a dark-colored, four-door vehicle believed to have been involved in the shooting.

No suspects had been publicly identified as of Sunday.

Ard said his office has encountered gang activity in Livingston Parish and intends to fight it.

“We’re going to do everything we can to fight this,” Ard said.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office at 225-686-2241, extension 1, submit a tip through the LPSO mobile app, or contact Crime Stoppers at 225-344-7867. A reward may be available through Crime Stoppers.
