BATON ROUGE — A 2007 police report alleging sexual assault by Louisiana state Rep. Blake Miguez has resurfaced in recent media reports as he campaigns for the Republican nomination in Louisiana’s 5th Congressional District seat.
According to reporting by The Atlantic and other national outlets, a woman who was in a relationship with Miguez at the time accused him of rape after an incident at their shared residence. The woman reported the allegation to police and underwent a sexual-assault forensic exam at a hospital the same day, according to the police report reviewed by reporters.
The case did not proceed in court. The woman later declined to pursue charges, and no criminal charges were filed.
Miguez’s campaign denied the allegation. In statements to reporters, the campaign pointed to a recent email from the accuser’s father claiming his daughter fabricated the story and had substance-abuse issues at the time. The outlets reporting on the case said they were unable to confirm a public retraction from the accuser.
The renewed attention comes after Miguez received an endorsement from former President Donald Trump. The Atlantic reported the police report had circulated among political operatives in Louisiana and raised questions about whether the allegation was known during the endorsement vetting process.
The allegation dates to nearly two decades ago and has never been adjudicated in court. Miguez has denied wrongdoing.
