Joshua “Josh” Morott has announced his candidacy for the U.S. House of Representatives in Louisiana’s 5th Congressional District in the 2026 election.

Morott, who identifies himself as a working-class Louisianan, Christian, and single father, said his campaign will focus on issues including opposition to carbon capture projects, family court reform, conservative policy priorities, and support for veterans and education reform. He has previously worked as a substitute teacher, insurance agent, and realtor, according to campaign materials.

Morott is running as a Republican in Louisiana’s 5th Congressional District, where the seat is expected to be open following U.S. Rep. Julia Letlow’s announcement that she is seeking election to the U.S. Senate.
