SPRINGFIELD, La. — A 57-year-old motorcyclist was killed Sunday afternoon in a crash on LA 43 near Haynes Settlement Road, according to Louisiana State Police Troop A.

Troopers said the crash occurred shortly before 2 p.m. on Nov. 2 and claimed the life of Earl Duncan of Springfield.

The preliminary investigation revealed that Duncan was traveling north on LA 43 on a 1999 Honda motorcycle when a northbound 2024 Cadillac XT6 attempted to pass him in a legal passing zone. For reasons still under investigation, the motorcycle turned left into the path of the Cadillac, resulting in a collision.

Duncan sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. He was wearing a DOT-approved helmet, authorities said. The driver of the Cadillac, who was properly restrained, was not injured.

Impairment is not suspected, but routine toxicology samples will be collected for analysis as part of the ongoing investigation.

State Police reminded motorists to remain alert, avoid distractions, and follow all traffic laws. Troopers also encouraged motorcycle riders to wear proper safety gear and consider taking a certified safety course, which can reduce the risk of severe injuries in crashes.
