LIVINGSTON PARISH — Parish President Randy Delatte highlighted longtime public servant Walley Avara for his ongoing contributions to Livingston Parish and the Capital Region, calling him a quiet leader who "shows up, does the work, and makes this parish better without asking for credit."

Avara currently serves as a voting member of the Capital Area Road and Bridge District, where he helps guide planning for the long-anticipated Mississippi River Bridge project. He also holds a seat on the Ward 2 Water Board, working to ensure reliable water service for Denham Springs and surrounding communities.

In a recent Facebook post, Delatte praised Avara’s steady dedication to public service, both through appointments and personal efforts. Avara previously ran for State Representative, a move Delatte said “reflected his belief that leadership is about more than titles; it is about being present and engaged.”

The Avara family’s service runs deep. His wife has served more than 20 years as a paramedic. His eldest son and daughter-in-law are both active-duty military, while his youngest son works for Livingston Parish Public Works. His other daughter-in-law has worked in the Capitol as a legislative aide.

“Walley is not just making a difference, he’s leaving a legacy,” Delatte said. “We are grateful for him and for his family’s service.”
