LVINGSTON, La. — The puppies have arrived faster than the families can. To keep pace, the newly renovated and expanded Livingston Parish Animal Shelter, located at 13525 Florida Blvd, Livingston, LA 70754, is offering a $25 adoption deal on puppies and adult dogs for the entire month of June.
Right now, the shelter has 10 to 15 puppies available for adoption, and there are several more that are just slightly too young to go home. Those puppies will be added to the available adoption roster as soon as they are old enough to be on their own. The puppies currently available for adoption are between 6 weeks and 6 months old.
The $25 fee covers spay or neuter surgery, microchipping, age-appropriate vaccines, a rabies vaccination and tag if the dog is 3 months or older, a leash and collar, and a little food from the shelter's supply.
"We are trying to find as many good homes for everyone as we can," Amanda Forde, director of the Livingston Parish Animal Shelter, said during an exclusive interview.
In May alone, the shelter took in 178 animals, found homes for 42, reunited 17 with their owners, and delivered 32 to rescue centers for a second chance at life. Since then, even more dogs and puppies have found their way to the shelter, resulting in an overflow of animals all waiting patiently for a chance to call someplace home.
"While we're celebrating these happy endings, we still have so many beautiful babies waiting patiently for their turn. Puppies, adults, seniors, big dogs, little dogs, each one deserving of a family to call their own. Some have been overlooked for weeks or even months despite being wonderful companions," the shelter wrote in a Facebook post.
In July, the shelter will also host additional events, including Puppy Yoga on July 11. This donation-based event will let every participant enjoy a healthy yoga session surrounded by adorable puppies in their favorite downward dog pose.
Additionally, the Bissell Pet Foundation's Empty the Shelters event is coming up in July, with the Livingston Parish Animal Shelter participating by lowering all adoption fees to only $20 per animal.
To all animal lovers, first-time pet owners, and families looking for a new furry friend, June and July are the perfect months to stop by the Livingston Parish Animal Shelter and give some of the sweetest dogs Livingston has to offer a new forever home.
