BATON ROUGE, La. — On May 19, 2025, the Louisiana House of Representatives passed House Bill 408, introduced by Rep. Kellee Dickerson, which mandates health insurance coverage for pediatric acute-onset neuropsychiatric syndrome (PANS) and related autoimmune encephalitis conditions.
The legislation requires health insurers to cover therapies and treatments for children diagnosed with these disorders, aiming to alleviate financial burdens on families and ensure timely access to necessary medical care.
Advocates, including families affected by PANS, have been instrumental in supporting the bill, sharing personal stories to highlight the importance of comprehensive insurance coverage for these conditions.
