The Suburban Reviewers met on March 4, 2026, at the home of Angela Mashon, where 29 members were welcomed by a picturesque setting of lush flowers and ferns surrounding the gathering space. The pleasant outdoor atmosphere provided a fitting backdrop for a morning devoted to fellowship, books, and club business.
Hostesses for the meeting were Angela Mashon, Nelda Dendinger, Theresa Dendinger, Lynne Jones, Elise LeBlanc, Judith Nesom, and Teri Sullivan. The hostesses served a delightful luncheon featuring chicken pasta salad, finger sandwiches, and an assortment of desserts, which members enjoyed while visiting together.
During the business portion of the meeting, members discussed ongoing concerns regarding the Livingston Parish Library system. The club also began planning for its upcoming May trip to New Orleans, which promises to be an enjoyable outing centered on literary interests and cultural exploration.
The program was presented by club member Sharman Rainey, who delivered a poignant and informative talk about her family’s generational love of books and their adventures in rare-book collecting. Rainey shared stories of how their collection has grown over the years and the joy of discovering meaningful, unique, and historically significant volumes. She also brought a selection of books from their personal collection, giving members the opportunity to see and appreciate several rare and interesting titles firsthand. Rainey stated, “I’ve come to believe that books carry two stories…The first story is the author’s. The second story belongs to everyone who turned its pages.”
The gathering reflected the enduring spirit of the Suburban Reviewers, whose members continue to celebrate literature, friendship, and the shared pleasure of reading.
