Suburban Reviewers kick off 62nd year with LSU-themed tailgate party

On September 2nd, The Suburban Reviewers “ kicked off” from its summer recess to begin its sixty- second year with a tiger tailgate party welcoming 29 members.  The meeting convened at St. Francis Episcopal Parish Hall in Denham Springs, where members were greeted on arrival by an enormous Mike the Tiger inflatable.

Inspired by the committee’s selected book It Never Rains In Tiger Stadium, hostesses Ann Green Harris, Jennifer Miller, Alice Pittman, Janie Rainey, Lisa Waldrep, and Kitty Wells donned “Dǒulǐ” hats in a nod to the LSU 1958 defensive line known as the “Chinese Bandits”; Lisa Waldrep having used her considerable millinery skills to elevate the traditional Chinese farm hat, transforming it into must have game day attire. Delicious tailgate fare was served amidst LSU helmets, tigers and festive tiger football décor.

President Earline Sceroler called the meeting to order and discussed plans for the upcoming year.  Members enjoyed a most interesting slide presentation by Fine Art Landscape Photographer Andy Crawford, who discussed his techniques for capturing the beautiful Louisiana swamp scenes featured in his photo journal book Into The Lost World: A Journey into Louisiana’s Bayou Country, which is available for purchase at local bookstores.

The meeting adjourned with plans to meet again in October.
