LIVINGSTON, La. — The Town of Livingston marked the Fourth of July with its biggest turnout yet, drawing families to the park for a full day of free food, live music, and friendly competition.
This year's celebration set records, with 13 teams facing off in the kickball tournament and 88 competitors lining up for the watermelon eating contest. A jambalaya cookoff, organized again by Dusty Glascock with guest judge Terry Taylor, kept the free food coming, while United We Jam played through the evening, and Cookie's Fireworks closed the night with a show.
Behind the fun was a long day of work. Volunteers from Glory Baptist Church, Fundamental Baptist Church, Life Church Walker, and Cain's Family Market handed out water and cut watermelon in the heat, aldermen served up hundreds of hot dogs and popsicles, and the town's public works crew worked from 6:30 a.m. until 11 p.m. setting up and tearing down. The event was free to all, made possible by dozens of local sponsors.
