DENHAM SPRINGS – The Livingston Parish news is thrilled to announce the addition of journalist and author Tom Aswell to its team as lead news reporter. With a distinguished career spanning over 40 years in investigative reporting and editing across Louisiana, Aswell brings a wealth of experience and an unwavering commitment to journalistic integrity.

A graduate of Louisiana Tech University with a degree in journalism and a minor in history, he has worked for major publications in Ruston, Monroe, Shreveport, and Baton Rouge. He also spent more than a decade running Capitol News Service, providing state government coverage for over 30 Louisiana newspapers. His investigative prowess earned him multiple awards from United Press International, including top honors for feature writing and breaking news reporting.

In addition to his journalistic achievements, Aswell served for 20 years as a claims adjuster for the Louisiana Office of Risk Management, where he evaluated claims against the state and coordinated legal defense efforts.

Since retiring in 2011, he has remained active as an author, publishing and editing numerous books on Louisiana politics, crime, and history. His works, including Louisiana Rocks: The True Genesis of Rock and Roll and Louisiana’s Rogue Sheriffs: A Culture of Corruption, have been used as academic resources at Vanderbilt University and Nicholls State University.

"We are honored to welcome Tom Aswell to the Livingston Parish News," said McHugh David, Editor. "His extensive investigative background, deep understanding of Louisiana’s history and politics, and passion for storytelling make him an invaluable addition to our team."

When he’s not uncovering compelling stories, Tom enjoys baseball, writing fiction and nonfiction, and spending time with his wife, Betty, their three daughters, and seven grandchildren.
