LIVINGSTON — A 41-year-old Walker man who was charged as a habitual offender has been sentenced to serve 75 years in prison.
21st Judicial District Attorney Scott Perrilloux reports that a Livingston Parish Jury needed less than one hour to convict Albert Watson, Jr., 41, of Walker, on possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine.
The case stems from a March 2025 investigation in Livingston Parish. At the time of his arrest, Watson was found to possess a large quantity of methamphetamine, dozens of baggies for distribution, and a scale. Perrilloux said the defendant was also in possession of a cell phone which contained evidence of dozens of drug transactions already perpetrated by the defendant, including audio of the defendant describing in his own words what types of narcotics he sold, the quantity, and what amounts.
At trial, the jury also heard from eyewitnesses and two experts called by the State.
Perrilloux said Watson's habitual offender classification is based on the defendant’s extensive criminal history, which includes convictions for simple robbery, assault by drive-by shooting, possession with the intent to distribute heroin, possession of oxycodone, possession of heroin, possession of lisdexamfetamine, and sale of a legend drug.
Perrilloux credited Assistant District Attorney Greg Stahlnecker, Jr. for his diligent work in presenting this case and securing the harshest sentence allowed under the law.
“Illegal narcotics have had a devastating and deadly impact on our community,” Stahlnecker said. “Our office aggressively prosecutes people who continue to sell poison to the people of our parish and those who prey on people afflicted by substance abuse disorders. Our goal is to help those in the community suffering with such disorders to overcome their addiction and to seek judgment for those who target the vulnerable. The jury was able to reach a just verdict after the great teamwork from our office, the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office, and the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab.”
Judge Brenda Bedsole Ricks presided over the one-day jury trial, which was heard in Livingston.
