WATSON, La. — 47 volunteers collected 176 bags of trash across the Watson and Live Oak community Saturday as part of the Ponder and Jody Jones Memorial Median Project's Trash Bash.

Bobbi Jo Guerin, the events organizer and manager of the Ponder & Jody Jones Memorial Median Project, helped bring the community together for the cleanup, held in coordination with Love the Boot Week.

Volunteers included Watson residents, Live Oak High School students from various clubs and sports teams, the Live Oak Elementary Beta Club, and representatives from Fire District 4, the Livingston Parish Sheriff's Office, District 2 Councilman Ryan Chavers, and Planning and Zoning Commissioner Brian Clemmons.

The group met at Elite Powersports in the center of Watson, where owners Anthony and Kelli Sanders regularly host the event. Volunteers covered a two-mile radius from Cane Market East to Walker North, filling 30- to 50-gallon bags with trash, including tires, garage sale signs, boiled crawfish waste, and a significant amount of alcohol-related litter.

Organizers said the volume of alcohol containers collected was eye-opening for the students who participated, and emphasized that keeping the Watson community clean takes participation from everyone.

The organizers would like to thank Mary Lee Donuts and Oak Point Fresh Market for their generous donation of snacks for the volunteers.
