WATSON, La. — Watson held its largest parade celebrating America's 250th anniversary the night of July 4, 2026. A large mix of people, children, pets, and police all rallied together to partake in the festivities as decorated floats and cars drove up and down Highway 16.

Before the parade began, members of the Sheriff's Office cruised up and down the street on motorcycles, giving fist bumps, high-fives, and handshakes to the younger members of the crowd. One officer was seen giving a young girl in a wheelchair an ornamental sheriff's badge as a surprise gift, which was met with joyous applause from the surrounding crowd.

From Louisiana-themed floats to patriotic floats positively decked out with flags, streamers, and shining silver stars, there were more than enough groups present to keep the parade going for well over an hour.

Each float had riders throwing goodies to the waiting crowd, including common items like beads, bouncy balls, and beer koozies, as well as more specialized items such as toy cigars, sunglasses, plushies, and 250th anniversary flags.

As blue, white, and red confetti floated through the air and landed on groups of people, cheering rang out from children catching toys midair and playing on the grassy partitions separating the road.

Rudy's Seafood and Steakhouse had its own float for the parade, festively decorated with images of new menu items and summer drinks, and boasting the slogan "serving freedom, one steak & shrimp at a time!" The servers and staff riding along threw Rudy 's-themed drink koozies, strands of beads, and gift cards to the eager crowd.

Another float was simply a boat attached to a truck, also decked out in American flags and streamers, with a man wearing a bald-eagle mask and holding a large American flag while waving to the crowd.

Each and every person left the parade richer in spirit than when they arrived, with many holding bags filled with goodies and others laughing together as they made their way behind Rudy's for the fireworks finale.

Among the many cheers and shouts, one thing continued to be repeated up and down the entire parade line: a chant of "America! America! America!" It makes you wonder what a celebration like this will look like when our descendants mark America's 500th anniversary.
