At 1:30 PM on Halloween, Rescue Rehome Repeat of South Louisiana held their Bow-wow-ween Costume Contest, a tradition that has been going on since before 2012, encouraging all pet owners and their pets to attend wearing their best costumes for a change to win the grand prize of $500.
Around 15 participants showed up for the contest, featuring costumes from beloved Disney films as well as creatively decorated strollers for the owners with multiple pets.
The owners of Pet Supply Plus, Red Stick Dirty Sodas, and Biscuits & Barks judged for the contest, judging on a criteria from 1 to 4 on theme, creativity, and overall atmosphere of the costumes.
First, second, and third place won a gift basket with pet toys and treats as well as a trophy. The ultimate winner got a grand prize of $500, a trophy, and a deluxe gift basket.
Along with the pet costume contest, a children’s coloring contest was also being held for whoever colored the best on a paw patrol coloring sheet. The winners for the coloring contest were Mariann Clark, Tayson Clark, and Mason Clark.
After a walkthrough of all the costume contest contestants and the judges tallied up their scores, the winners were announced and prizes given out.
Alayna and her toy poodles Mylie and Mila were the ultimate grand prize winners with their southern cowboy style costumes and decorated stroller.
Amy Szucs and her dogs Finley, Biscuit, and Heidi won first place with their chef and spaghetti and meatballs trio costume and decorated stroller.
Tessa Saizon and her dog Ryleigh who was carted around in an expertly crafted ice cream truck stroller won second place.
Lisa and Brent Smith with their dog Beefcake won third place with their Princess and the Frog costumes.
Among those costume contest winners, many other cutely decorated and dressed up dogs were strutting their stuff for the judges. Dogs dressed as a stick of butter, a bumble bee, a bunch of grapes, a lion, snow white, a spider, Ghostface, Woodstock the bird, Major Payne, and Rex the toy dinosaur were all just as cutely presented and appreciated at the contest.
For anyone who missed out on participating or wants to participate in the next contest, Rescue Rehome Repeat always offers adoptions and hosts plenty of events encouraging the community to come out and meet their next furry friend.
